Matt Maher, Principal

I’m very excited to be part of the fantastic staff here at Evergreen Elementary School. It’s truly an honor to be a part of such a fantastic school. Great things happen here on a daily basis. This year marks my 23rd year in public education and my 8th here at Evergreen. I spent my first 9 years as a teacher and Assistant Principal with Richmond Public Schools. I came to Chesterfield in 2005 as the Associate Principal at Hening Elementary School where I served as principal until July of 2011.

I’m also a proud product of the CCPS system, graduating from Meadowbrook High School back in 1986. I live in the Evergreen school district; both of my children attended Evergreen. Both of my children now attend Midlothian High School. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, a Masters in Teaching, and a postgraduate administration certification, all from VCU. Go Rams!

My goals for the students of Evergreen center on preparing them for their future. During these crucial formative years of their education, it is important that we teach them to think and problem solve well beyond the standardized tests. We will push every student to reach his/her potential on a daily basis, while also making school a fun and happy experience for them!

I will continue working closely with the families of Evergreen and work to build strong relationships within our community. Together we will do great things!

I am extremely excited to begin working with the Evergreen community as your Dean of Students. For the past 16 years I have had the pleasure of working with the students and families of Alberta Smith Elementary in a multitude of roles from second to fifth grade. I am extremely excited for my new role and look forward to getting to know the Evergreen family!

As a lifelong learner, I recently completed my Educational Leadership degree at Longwood University. I originally graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University where I earned my Bachelors in Psychology and my Masters in Elementary Education.

In my free time I stay busy enjoying my family! I have a wonderful husband named Ryan and a daughter named Riley. This year, my daughter is beginning her high school career at Monacan! We love traveling, attending concerts, and playing with our two dogs Opal and Bacon. I also have a huge love for VCU basketball! You will always find me watching the game and cheering them on. GO RAMS!!

I am looking forward to a fantastic year here with my Evergreen family!
